With Blue arriving seconds later, Oak tells the two trainers about a dream of his when he was young which was to use his Pokemon to create a full guide on the Pokemon in the Kanto region but due to his old age, Oak can no longer accomplish his goal, something he wants both Red and Blue to do for him instead.

He also starts gathering the eight Gym Badges by defeating the Gym Leaders and regularly meets Blue who usually challenges him to a battle, Blue being one step ahead of Red and showing up to stall Red's progress. During his journey, Red learns of a group of Pokemon thieves called Team Rocket. He first meets them when they're searching for and attempting to steal fossils inside Mt. Upon arriving in Cerulean City, Red heads north to the Nugget Bridge on Route 24 and defeats the Trainers as well as a Team Rocket Grunt who was hoping to recruit new members for the organization.

He soon meets another Grunt hiding in the grounds of a house, having stolen the TM, Dig from a man who resides in Cerulean with his wife. Red soon discovers Team Rocket are plotting something and manages to gain access to their underground base which is hidden beneath Celadon City's Game Corner or Rocket Corner.

His journey through the hideout brings him face-to-face with Giovanni, the boss and leader of Team Rocket whom Red defeats in battle, forcing Team Rocket to abandon their hideout in Celadon. Fuji, the elderly caretaker is being held hostage by some Grunts.

By defeating them, Red frees Mr. Fuji and causes the Rockets to flee from the Tower while also ensuring the ghost of the Marowak who Team Rocket also murdered, leaving her baby Cubone an orphan can finally head to the afterlife, her spirit having been calmed. Red heads into Saffron City and learns that Team Rocket has not only taken control of the city but also the Silph Company who are planning on using the Master Ball, a Poke Ball that can catch any Pokemon without fail.

He meets Giovanni in the Silph President's office and defeats him again, causing Giovanni to flee and end Team Rocket's control of Saffron, resulting in Saffron returning to normal.

Red eventually prevails, earning the Earth Badge while Giovanni disbands Team Rocket, promising to go into solo training to become a better Trainer. However, Blue's reign as Champion is short-lived as Red soon defeats him in battle, becoming the new Kanto Champion. After that, Red opts to continue on with his training rather than stay at the Indigo Plateau as a Champion. In Yellow , his story is very similar, except that now Red receives a Pikachu as his starter, the Pikachu being the same one Professor Oak caught when Red attempted to leave Pallet Town while Blue, his rival gets an Eevee.

In Gold and Silver and Crystal , after becoming the Kanto Champion upon defeating his rival, Blue, Red became a wandering Trainer with his journey eventually taking him to Mt.

Silver where he spends his days and nights training his Pokemon team alone. He presumably remains there for three years and is also revealed to have become so distant from his mom that he does not talk to her via phone anymore. When the player character gets the opportunity to go to Kanto after defeating the Elite Four and Champion Lance, they can visit Red's house in Pallet Town with his mom greeting them and then telling them Red has been away for a long and that he hasn't called so she doesn't know where he is or what he's doing.

She also reveals she worries about him, even though people say that no word is proof is he's doing fine. Talking to her again has her commenting that she worries about Red getting hurt or sick but he's a boy and she also voices her pride at the fact he's doing what he wants to do.

Upon gaining access to Mt. Silver after collecting all 16 Gym Badges from both the Johto and Kanto regions, the player character can make their way through the mountain and ultimately challenge Red to a battle with Red disappearing whenever he's defeated. In FireRed and LeafGreen , he reappears as the protagonist although this is a remake. In this saga, he has a female counterpart named Leaf. His story progresses the same as in the original games but after becoming Champion, Red travels to the Sevii Islands where he helps Bill's friend, Celio connect his Pokemon Network to the Hoenn region.

During his time in the islands, Red discovers a small group of Team Rocket Grunts led by Executive Archer who are operating in a warehouse on Five Island. Red sneaks into the warehouse and defeats the Grunts before meeting Archer who accuses him of trying to sown distrust amongst the Grunts.

Even though the group are defeated, presumably fleeing the Sevii Islands, they announce their intention to revive Team Rocket once more and bring Giovanni back from his solo training.

After that, Red continues on his journey and eventually becomes a wandering Trainer, disappearing from the public eye. He soon makes his way towards Mt. Silver, a mountain bordering Kanto and Johto and presumably spends three years there, training his Pokemon day and night while also becoming so distant from his Mom that he doesn't even talk to her via the phone anymore. Every time he is defeated, he disappears but comes back once the Elite Four and Champion have been defeated.

When the player character first visits the Battle Tree, they will encounter Red and Blue and will battle one of them. After Red or Blue has been properly defeated, Red will reward the player by giving them a full set of Kanto starter Mega stones, allowing the player to Mega Evolve the Kanto starters in their party.

Red can be battled at the top of the Indigo Plateau, near the entrance after defeating at least 6 Master Trainers with the player character also having six Pokemon in their party. Unlike the original games, Red like Blue completed their journeys and even defeated the Elite Four years before the player character began their journey.

He can be challenged to a battle and like all the Master Trainer battles in Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee, the player character must defeat Red without using any Items from their bag. Upon being defeated, Red grants the player the title of Battle Master before leaving. Like the other games, he will reappear for a rematch every time the player character has successfully beaten the Elite Four.

Red makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. In story mode he follows the character if he is being used until they get to a point where he is unable to continue, however he will be warped in front of the character at certain times. Squirtle is a light weight and is not evolved at all, Ivysaur is an averaged out middle weight and a has evolved once.

Charizard is a heavy weight and is fully evolved. Red is first introduced when Lucas bumps into him and both are surrounded by Primids. They then go to the ruins to find Charizard and Ivysaur, but before they continue, they then are attacked by Wario, which they win. During the story, Red finds Ivysaur as a trophy likely due to a lost battle with Charizard and captures it with a Poke Ball , and battles Charizard and captures it as well.

He and Lucas then reach the end if the ruins and battle Galeom who fell though the top. After winning, Galeom is revealed to be a Subspace Bomb and grabs Lucas and Red the latter being knocked out. However Lucas frees them and they are saved by Meta Knight.

They then go with Marth, Meta Knight and Ike. They then go to a mountain where a battle is taking place, which ends with an army from Subspace coming to attack. They then meet up with the heroes that were in the Halberd and the Bomb Factory. He along with the others go to subspace to defeat Master Hand.

However he is defeated with the others by Tabuu. Although Squirtle and Ivysaur are cut from the game, leaving only his Charizard to be solely playable, Red is demoted to assist trophy instead. Generation II.
